Volunteer crew can contact Joan Smith at SmithCoyote@gmail.com to be put on a list or, better yet, be at the stage information booth at 6:30 Saturday or Sunday morning to be assigned to a pilot who needs more crew. Pilots may sign up for Volunteer Crew at the Pilot Registration on Friday night, Jan 13, 2012, or they may contact the Pilot Coordinator to be placed on the list for Volunteer Crew needed Volunteer Crew should depend on their pilot for instruction and direction. Please do not assume that you know how the pilot wants things done. Hot Air Ballooning is a dangerous sport, for obvious reasons. To name a few: · the use of highly flammable propane gas for fuel, · the unpredictability of the weather and subsequent potential for unplanned movement of the balloon basket (for example: into the spectators, into the crew, or into a power line or other undesirable object). There are several components (Crewing 101) to being a good crew member, including knowing the balloon parts, knowing the assembly and chase protocol, and knowing how to help land a balloon AND land owner etiquette. Please ask the pilot or other experienced crew members how your pilot does things and how the above hazards are mitigated.
