To name a few: · the use of highly flammable propane gas for fuel, · the unpredictability of the weather and subsequent potential for unplanned movement of the balloon basket (for example: into the spectators, into the crew, or into a power line or other undesirable object). There are several components (Crewing 101) to being a good crew member, including knowing the balloon parts, knowing the assembly and chase protocol, and knowing how to help land a balloon AND land owner etiquette. The basics of hot air balloon crewing, and information relevant to balloon crewing for the Mesilla Valley Balloon Rally, will be explained at the Volunteer Crew Training. This training is free and open to the public.
